How to Start a Frozen Meal Ministry

So you have a Food Hamper Ministry and now you’d like to expand it to include frozen meals. Excellent idea! I can help with that!

Do you have church family members who have been in the hospital and upon discharge are not able to resume cooking and cleaning right away? What about those situations where mom is unable to cook for her family, maybe she’s hospitalized, or maybe she just brought home a new baby? It is times like these when it would be such a blessing to receive an outpouring of love from the church family in the way of hot cooked meals!

5 Ws, Inductive Method to Study Bible

The 5 W’s for Studying the Bible

If you know the 5 W’s and H, then you are ready to study your Bible using the Inductive Bible Study Approach. The answers to the questions, Who, What, Where, When and Why will help you to dig deeper into the text than casual reading.  With the Inductive Study Approach, we will consciously ask these questions that will lead us to observe what is in the text.

Did I mention that this is my favourite Bible Study method? I first learned it about 10 years ago and have been using it ever since in my personal study.

Seek First the Kingdom of God

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6.33 (KJV)

That’s the secret to finding yourself in the river on a daily basis. Seek God first! Begin your day in His presence!

Matthew 6.19-20 (NKJV): Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Colossians 3.2 (NIV): Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Matthew 6.21 (NKJV): For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Where is your treasure?

Store up treasures in heaven, set your affection on things above, not on earth

3 R’s for Building Faith

It is true, our faith wanes from time to time. We have days when we are discouraged, feel drained spiritually and at odds with ourselves and those around us. We need to backtrack, to see when this discord began and more than likely, what we’ll find is a disconnect with our Father.

If we don’t find ourselves daily in the river of God, the disconnect starts slowly, not really noticeable at first. It happens again the next day, and the next until we find we are spiritually dry, in need of finding the river. If you missed a related post on Only in the River, you can catch it here.

To change the discord into fellowship, there are three things we need to do:

transform your prayers by praying backwards

One Way to Transform Your Prayers

There is one way to revolutionize your prayers and we’ve been missing it along. We pray according to the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6 and Luke 11 but still, we miss it.

We’ve been taught to pray in the name of Jesus and so we end our prayers thinking that it is the formula to having them answered.

It is not. The author of a book that I read, Bryan Chappell, says

The name of Jesus is not a genie in a bottle or a magic formula to getting whatever it is we want. It is not a wishing well.

And yet, so many believers pray this way, with anticipation of having prayers answered because we said certain words.

And so we tack on let Your will be done thinking that this will surely get our prayers noticed and answered.

Not always.

A Study of Psalm 139

Wherever I Go, There You Are!

My favourite Psalm is 139. There is so much richness in it, so much truth, we will need to examine it section by section. So, grab your favourite Bible, your cup of tea, and even a lead pencil for notes and colour pencil to mark words as we go along. Are you ready?

As in other studies I have published, I like to use the King James Version, so if you have your own favourite version, please use it to read along with us.

If I was marking this, I would definitely be circling the nouns referencing GOD and ME. They are highlighted below.

Only in the River

He’s trying to get my attention. Everywhere I turn, there’s a word, a message, a song, something that speaks to ‘waiting on God’, or ‘spending time with God’. The sermon last week was “Sitting at Jesus’ Feet”, how Mary had found the good thing while Martha, who invited Jesus into her home, was busy with tasks involved in serving her guests. I love how Jesus did not condemn or ridicule Martha when she asked him to tell Mary to get up and help her. In fact, it was suggested that Martha may have been a bit rude as she spoke to Jesus about Mary. Even so, Jesus still responded with love as he said that Mary had found the good thing and it would not be taken from her. Luke 10:38-42.

How to Start a Food Hamper Ministry

So, you sense God is leading you to start a ministry providing food to those in need. Excellent idea! I can help you!

Working in an outreach ministry is a wonderful experience. If you have a heart for working with people, this is a good fit.

Not everyone who needs food is “needy”. There are many people who may have a hard time making ends meet once in a blue moon, and therefore need a ‘hand up’ to the end of the month. These people could even be in your congregation!

Jesus said in Matthew 25:40, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

You’re in a perfect place to minister to the least of these!

Power of Affirmation

Do you encourage others? When is the last time someone encouraged you with a kind word, a compliment, a card or note or even to let you know they are praying for you? Would you like to be an encouragement to others?

Let’s look at the power of affirmation from a Biblical perspective. The Apostle Paul wrote a letter to Timothy with the intention of encouraging him. Too often we are quick to judge and criticize others when we should be building them up. This is what happened to Timothy, who was being despised because of his young age. Even though he was functioning as an ambassador for Paul with the church at Ephesus, the believers there were still looking down on him and criticizing him. We don’t know all the reasons why the believers criticized Timothy but that really doesn’t matter at this point. Except to say criticism hurts.
