The Apostle Paul asked the believers for prayer three times:
- Ephesians 6:19-20 19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
- 2 Thessalonians 3:1-2 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: 2 And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.
- Romans 15:30-33 30 Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me; 31 That I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints; 32 That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed. 33 Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.
This example that Paul gave us is to show how important it is to pray for our pastors and those in leadership over us. A pastor’s life is one filled with many challenges as he leads the local body of Christ. The enemy is seeking whom he may devour and your pastor is a prime target. Your pastor may be faced with discouragement, conflict, confrontations, unhappy church members, distraction, temptation, and so much more.
Your prayers will strengthen him and be a source of encouragement to him. You can pray for your Pastor in three main areas: his ministry, his family, and his personal life.
Here are a few prayers to begin with:
Vision: Jer 3:15 May he lead the church with vision, knowledge and understanding through the Word.
Wise Counsel: Prov 15:22 Guide him through your Word. Give him godly men to stand by him in support.
Wife: Gen 2:18-19 May she respect and love him. May she be the helpmate he needs as they serve You.
Sermon Preparation: 2 Tim 2:15 Help him as He prepares his message. May he be sensitive to your leading.
Faithfulness: Titus 1:9 May he be faithful to Your Word and bold to rebuke, reprove and correct those who contradict it.
