My Life, His Plans: Living Out My Destiny

My life, His plans. Do you ever think about your future? Do you wonder what’s in store for you? Or even, why you’ve had the past you’ve had, the life you’ve lived? What about the here and now? Why the struggles?

Destiny. We all think about it at one time or another. We all have one. Sometimes we call it fate. Some people use the term karma while others think of the term future.

My Life, His Plans | Destiny | Predestined | Predestination | God's Plan for My Life

Here’s how defines destiny:

1. Something that is to happen or has happened to a particular person or thing; lot or fortune.  2. The predetermined, usually inevitable or irresistible, course of events.

The King James Version uses terms such as foreordained, foreknew and predestined as well as chosen and certain which is our English word ‘destiny’.

I didn’t use to think about my destiny as I lived from day-to-day doing whatever felt right to do. Even as a believer, I didn’t think too much about my destiny. I knew the Lord had a plan for me but whether I was living out my destiny, I never gave it much thought. That all changed when I studied Ephesians 1 using the Inductive Bible Study Method (IBSM). That really opened my eyes to see that I have a destiny AND that God wants me to live it out according to His plan for my life. My life, His plans.

My Life, His Plans are Through Jesus Christ

So, let’s look at Ephesians 1:4-5

According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

If you’ve ever wondered why you’re here or why things are happening to you that you can’t figure out, the answer is right here in these two verses. Do you see it? It’s predestination.

Before the very foundation of time, God chose you for Himself. He planned you. He designed you.

And one day you were born and now here you are. If you are a believer, you are on your way to fulfilling the destiny He planned for you from before the beginning of time. I’m going to say something further about that in a moment but first let me finish this train of thought.

If you are reading this and you are not a believer or follower of Jesus Christ, if you have never given your heart to the One who died on the cross for you, before you can receive your destiny from Father God, you need to take that step of faith and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Believe that He died for your sins, took the penalty for your sins on Himself, and that He rose again from the dead and is seated at the right hand with the Father.

My Life, His Plans | Destiny | Predestined | Predestination | God's Plan for My Life

When you do this, in the sincerity of heart, with faith, believing that He will come to reside inside of you, then you are now born-again. You are a believer. You are a Christian, a Christ-follower. At this point, you have the Holy Spirit taking up residence in you, available to help you, to be your source of Comfort, your Teacher, and your Counselor.

Once you take this step of faith, your destiny that has been planned from forever to forever is now yours to grab hold of. If you just took this step of faith, please send me a message through my Contact page which is located under the About tab on the menu. I would love to hear from you. Oh, did you know that the angels in heaven just sang a beautiful song for you when you made your decision to follow Christ? They did!

Destiny. Yes, we all have one. We are chosen, we have been predestinated to be adopted by Jesus Christ to himself as mentioned in verse 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.

So, what does this mean? We can do what we want and it’s all covered by our destiny? No, that’s not it at all.

My Life, His Plans Means There’s A Book Written About You

Let’s look at a few more verses to help figure this out. Before we do that, I want to say that the Bible is full of references to the word “book” or “books”. While there are many references to a variety of books, I want to focus on particular books that concern us.

Romans 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Psalm 40:7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,

Psalm 56:8 Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?

Psalm 139:16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

Malachi 3:16 Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name.

Read these verses, above, again, but slower this time. Granted, these are different books but they do involve you. I want you to get a sense of what they are saying about YOU. Can you see it now? Can you see that you were chosen by God and that you were mentioned in book(s) before you were born?

Psalm 139:13-16  For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. 15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

Not only were you chosen by God but He also thinks about you, all. the. time.

Psalm 139:2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

Psalm 139:17,18 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! 18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

How much more precious can that be? You are always on His mind.

The Tough Times

Let that sink in. You are no accident and you are not here reading this by accident. He wants you to know that you are precious to Him. Sometimes we forget that. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in ourselves that we forget who we are to Him. He wants only the best end result for you.

Sure, we often go through difficult times to get that result but rest assured, those difficult times will strengthen you, make you stronger in your faith, that is, if you let it. If you let the tough times ground your faith, let them be used to grow your dependency in the Word and on the Lord, then no matter what happens, you are stronger for it.

If you let the tough times strengthen your awareness of the tactics the enemy uses, you can throw him off through the use of the Word of God. Then you will receive the outcome God has planned for you. You can read more about adversity and how it can strengthen your spiritual walk in this post.

Wrapping it Up

So, is predestination of value to you? If you are a believer, it is. The fact God Himself chose you for a purpose is an overwhelming thought. To know that God thinks of you with such amazing and wonderful thoughts all the time is mind boggling. And while He’s thinking of you, He’s thinking of me too. Isn’t that awesome! My life, your life but His plans, oh, how He loves you and me!

We’re not done yet with this study as we will look at the Books of Heaven in Part 2 to learn more about these books that we touched on briefly in this study. Have you ever thought about the books in heaven and they mean to you? Is this the first time you’ve heard of books in heaven that mention you and your life?

Would you care to leave a comment for me? I’d love to hear from you!
